ok i stopped today at the gas station awhile ago and i gassed up and got in and saw the abs light and the tcs light come on too. for the past week or so the parking brake light goes on and off all i do for that is move the parkin brake pedal and it goes off. earlier today i hit the brakes and i heard a noise come from the engine and i did it again and make a lil noise and the brakes were spongey. so im guessing that i dont have enough brake fluid in the reservoir. ive done the back breaks before i deployed which was july of 07 and i did the front ones when i got back which was december of 08 any ideas or imput? im going to go check them soon

Normally parking light on while brake is off is low fluid. Spongey is air in the lines. As for the noise what kind of noise?

If your pads and calipers are fine I'd highly recommend flushing the brake system and topping off the MC.

If the brake light goes out when you fiddle with the pedal you may need to adjust the switch.

First off I'd figuere out why the brakes are spongey before you do any more driving with that car.

the parking brake light would likely be caused by low brake fluid level. The other two probably are as well, but I'm not 100% on them

k it was only spoungy when i heard the noise and the brake pedal went in alil furthur when it happend too and the noise is like when you first start the car and you hear like an errr from the power steering? i think its from that cause when i hear that noise i feel movement in the steering wheel.

AHH! sorry, thought you were still...oh, well. Get in touch with me when you're in town and we can do a mini-meet.

If you hear a whine when moving the wheel, I would CERTAINLY check the fluid level. P/S is very neglected in these cars due to the pump/reservoir location.

I would look for a bad vacuum assist to the master cyl, then a low fluid level, then an open bleed valve, then bleed the lines. Those were the issues facing my 'Bird, and the faults were very similar.

start at aft right

open bleeder valve, pump brakes until no more air comes from bleeder valve. Each time the pedal reaches the floor, close the bleeder valve. If flushing fluid, continue until fluid runs clear.

Move to aft left, repeat above bleed procedures.

Move to forward right, repeat bleed procedures.

move to forward left, repeat bleed procedures.

Ensure you have adequate fluid level in reservoir, cap off reservoir, drive away into the sunset.
