Well "it" is my exhaust....i didn't think that it would effect my motor or anything but that first shop i took it to to get my exhaust fixed said that how my exhaust is is really hurting my motor..i thought he was just trying to scare me into getting it fixed there for 450 bucks. But today i noticed she's not running well at all...i first noticed it this morning at a stoplight bein generous with my right foot...it seemed like it was missing. Then on my way home from work getting on the interstate under half accelleration it did it again. I'm getting my exhaust done this weekend(i finally have the money again) and if it's still doign it i'll try my MAF sensor, is there anything else it could be? is my exhaust REALLY hurting my motor? any input would be great...

What do you mean by exhaust? There is alot from the exhaust manifolds all the way back to the tips. I suppose the guy is talking about the CAT and possibly the Ubend.

Um, for $450, you could order an aftermarket exhaust. I'd get another price quote, that's too high, even for a custom job. What is wrong with the exhaust?

well my exhuast is apparently custom...its just a 3 inch pipe from the cat back, no u-bend, but its rusting off and has rust holes all throughout it...then it goes to the stock y-pipe, thats what he said was hurting it because it's "choking" the motor and he said it was bad to not have a u-bend  ...the problem is just when i get on it it stutters...its done it before and was the MAF, i just cleaned it so i may be in need of another cleaning i hope...

Unless the stock "y" has a cat sleeping in it, then that isn't a problem. It could just be leaking there, and that would just make it loud. I would run new with a new cat and 2.5-3" back with a new y pipe and do as you want with keeping or replacing the mufflers.

Your car will not stumble with an open exhaust. I briefly did test runs with my car with a glasspack slapped on after the headers. It ran fine. Rusting through of the exhaust makes it louder, it doesn't cause running issues unless there is a blockage. Look for your problem elsewhere.

if that guy said not having a u-bend was a bad thing, it's obvious that he didn't know what he was talking about.

steer clear of that shop.

btw... I had my catback fully custom fabricated for $230, so the price they quoted you is a rip off

I got my exhaust for 400 with custom tips and a 3" pipe from the cat back with a res delete. It was fairly reasonable. I wish I had the bora exhaust with a 3" DP and no cat but we cant all get what we want.................... for now! I am saving up and modding my car to hell lol.

When my exhaust was leaking badly the car was definitely sluggish, loud, and dangerous in stand-still traffic (I think I lost some brain function) but the engine still ran fine. Prices for the exhaust job in my area of CT were so high (even the "custom" shops) that I ordered the Dynomax catback system and I couldn't be happier. I saved $$$ and the car sounds and responds great now! Find a reliable & cheap custom shop or spend the money on an aftermarket exhaust. I did and now I've got the modding bug.

i went to another mom and pop shop today...the guy gave me a better qoute..150 bucks, but thats just for a 2.25 inch pipe for the cat to the y...seems like everytime i go to a shop they look at the three inch pipe there and say..."WTF..who would put a 3" pipe on THIS car!?!?!?" kinda pisses me off...but i think i'm gonna have him do it...but with a 2.5" pipe...or should i go 3" again?

3" on a GTP with no res or muffs sounds sick as heck.

Every GP I see at the track (rare) they are running 3" straight pipe and usually cat-less.

Very loud and throaty. ALMOST V8 like. ALMOST!

Personally, if 2.5" can be gotten for under $200, I'd go for it. I payed $250 for my 2.5" cat-back with no rez. I even had them leave the muffler on with clamps so I can take it off for the strip.

I'm considering taking it off tomorrow and just putting some spare 2.5" pipe on the end. I'm curious to see how it sounds. wink

There is a guy I know at GLD running 3" straight pipe. I've seen/heard that set-up first hand.

He didn't even have a 3.4" pulley on it yet either, totally stock although I'm not sure about his manifolds, those may have been PEMs.

Did you replace the cat, or did cleaning the MAF solve your drivability problem?

If you cleaned the maf once before, I'd just go and get a new one and be done with it....

don't buy new... too expensive, get a used one from Ed Morad, he sells them for like $45, and i believe he gives a 3 or 4 month warranty on them
