well today a new noise came upon my grand prix... its coming from the passanger side rear of the car... it sounds like someone shoved a fifth of jack in my suspension cause its a clunking sound... i checked and there wasnt one, but i did notice that that section of the car is sitting a couple inches lower... if i bounce the back of the car i get the same clunking sound as when i hit bumps with it... is it the strut? or the spring? any help would be appreciated.. thanks guys

Not sure. I did have a similar noise in my old Cut Supreme. My struts had gone bad, and busted through the mounting plate and they were rattling around in my trunk making a "clunking" noise.

i brought it in today and the guy said it was a strut mount that broke... he said its not a big deal and not to worry about it unless it gets louder, but it bugs the crap out of me... makes my car sound like a piece of junk clunkin down the road... so i got another question... i was thinkin since my car has 120,000 miles on it, and has never had the struts replace, do you think itd be a good idea to replace the struts and the strut mounts all around? i found kyb struts on ebay for like 190 bucks with shipping on ebay, but am having a hard time finding strut mounts... what do you guys think?

I made it too 133k I believe on my rear struts. They started making strange noises, and they would lock up. Instead of having my car bounce over bumps, it would just plow right through them with me feeling everything. Still on orginal front ones with out trouble. They're still is decent shape considering the miles. I would just replace the rear two, since you might be fine with the front ones for awhile longer.

I think you should get new struts and mounts if you can afford it.

You can get mounts here:
http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=398

There may be other sites for mounts, I don't know. I'm just familiar with zzp's website.

Here's another place that has mounts also: Strut Mounts
And yes, it would be a good idea to do all four, with new springs, if they're the original set. smile

Well, if price is a concern, you can always go the quickstrut route; here are two places that carry them: Strutmasters and Auto Parts Direct To You They're not KYBs but they will do the job. smile

Just put the Monroes from Auto Parts Direct to you on a 99' with 150k. Sits much higher even with the 250 pounds of subs and amp and box in the trunk.

i think what im gonna do is go with the kyb struts off ebay for 190... then the strut mounts blackarrow showed me... so im lookin at like 370, then a guy i know who works on cars said hed install them for 100 bucks, so around 500 total... i think im just gonna piss on the springs and wait till those actually go bad... if i went with the complete set up from auto parts direct, itd be like 600, then have to pay to have them installed considering im stupid when it comes to mechanical stuff, if you couldnt already tell... plus i figure if i get all of them done, i SHOULDNT have to worry about the other ones goin bad... i really dont care if theyre kybs or not, but theyre cheap... actually maybe ill go to autozone tomorrow and see how much the struts and mounts would be... maybe they would even be cheaper... hmmm... anyways, thanks so much for all the help guys.. i really appreciate it..

this noise happened the day after i spent 600 bucks on a sound system and got it installed... good call on that one bryan you moron... sometimes i really kick myself in the ass

Thats too funny. If you get the complete setup it is pretty easy, except for a huge system in the trunk that doesn't move and getting the three nuts off is a pain in the nuckle(s).
I used this: Strut Replacement
