I noticed more HP in the butt-dyno with my open cone than with it boxed. I'm open cone from here on out.

while you are moving its fine, like herc said if you are stuck in a traffic jam or something , its going to get warm under the hood, therefore you will suck in hotter air.
it may be slightly warmer than a true CAI while moving.
I plan on making my own cold air box, like a wizair style. So it won't be a true "cold air intake" like what you see people doing when they stuff a filter in the fender, but it will be better than the HAI.

HAI all the way. Cheaper, easier, more SC whine, and no difference at all in performance.

[/b]They sell couplers at home improvement stores. The TB is about 3 inches, so a 3" coupler, 3" 45* elbow of PVC, drill a hole for the IAT and slap your filter on there.

My scangauge showed very high temps this summer with a HAI while in traffic and even once moving for 2-3 minutes. As soon as you stopped in traffic, it would never recover in town. While traveling across Kansas at 75 MPH on a 95 degree day with AC on the intake air temp was 115. My gutted stock air box shows about 10 degrees over outside air once the car gets up to temp, less now that it is cold out. Yes, while in traffic it will go up a little, but drops much faster than the HAI. I sold my CAI at our yard sale.

Maybe I missed something, but why would you want a hot air intake? More airflow over the stock set up? Hot air is less dense than cold air therefore it would cause a loss of power and fuel economy.

Your typical home depot rubber coupler is 3.5" I.D. as well as your typical piece of 3" PVC pipe is 3.5" O.D.. And it it has a flare that is 4" O.D.

But given the massive amount of air flowed through an open cone over a stock setup. For a DD open cone is more then enough how ever if your looking for that extra .1-.3 at the track then by all means CAI is by far superior.
