I am not a fan of the altezza tail lights on the 97-03 GPs, they look kinda ricey to me. I seen these on ClubGP and figured I would give it a shot. They turned out pretty good.
((((These pics are not mine}}}}
I didn't take pics yet...just showing what they look like.

They took a friggin long time to do, and I kinda screwed one up just a little bit, but not too bad. thumbsup

That looks like a PITA to do, TXGP how hard was it to knock out the red lens, did you replace your bulbs with red ones?

They look better than what I expected for altezza lights. Tell us the details about the installation please.

They look better than the real ones! laugh Some people did this mod with the 92-95 Grand Am GT tails so it's probibly the same. This is how they did it

Quote:
Way to clear your 92-95 Pontiac Grand Am GT tails!!! (GT ONLY!!!)

***To start off this is not my MOD! It was originally posted by Daniel Brice on GMPOWER.net and has been shot around through out the internet there-after.**

1) This MOD requires the following: 1 set of 92-95 Grand Am GT taillight assemblies, small flat head screwdriver, hair dryer, and maybe some extra epoxy for the re-seal.

2) First remove the tails from the car!

3) Then turn the hair dryer on and slowly move it across the epoxy seal that fits between the bulb caseing and the lense of either assembly. After it is heated up, slowly pry the flat head screwdriver between the lense and the caseing. (Move along the entire assembly in a step-by-step motion having the hair dryer blowing on the spot you are working on. Doing it this way will reduce the risk of cracking the lense!)

4) After you are finished prying the lense apart from the bulb caseing it should just fall off.

5) Then there is two possiablities: The first is there will be red film over the lense. If this is the case you will have to peel the film from the lense to make it clear. The second is there might be a red plastic piece covering the lense. If you see this then just pry it up apart from the lense.

6) Once you are done with one side move on to the next.

7) After both are apart it is time to reattach the lense to the caseing. You can either use the existing epoxy or redo the entire assembly with new. If using the old epoxy I would re-heat the glue with the hair dryer before reattaching. This way it will attach tighter and you will not have to worry as much about them fogging up.

8) Then after both sides are finished put both back on the car.

9) Once they are on you will need either red bulbs, clear bulbs with red bulb covers, or red led's to keep them legal.

10) You now have clear tails!

let me find the link to some pics for them..I haven't got pics of my car yet though....
Damn Red X's.
They were a PITA, A major one. I used red LEDs.
I bought the wrong ones cause that is all they had and I didn't want a ticket for white tail light bulbs. They still work, but blink hella fast.

I will get the link an the "how to" later this evening.

I read a thread at ClubGP that discuss' what needs to be done to use the LED's. I don't remember what it is, but I don't think you have the wrong ones, but there is something else that you need to do to make them work properly.

Does anyone know what it is that needs to be done to make the LED's work properly.

As long as they work for now....
The covers do not come off. I wish they did, but of course nothing is simple. You have to go through the bulb holes to do this. thumbsup

I like em. I'm not sure how they would look on a dark color, but they sure do look nice on white. Much nicer than the ricer looking Altezzas. Very classy I'd say.

Does anyone know of any websites that have nice taillight kits? Something thats different from what anyone else has.

Smoked lights look good on dark cars, and cleared stocks look good on white...ok smoked looks good on more than dark colors. I haven't seen them on any other colors yet.

Im not too sure they have other tail lights for our cars...other than clearing the stocks or switching them to "the rice effect".

If anyone finds anything, post it...I'd like to see

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of choices for our cars,Alteezas, Clear like you've done or smoked (tinted) which looks good on dark cars only IMOP

It does look nice.
I think I'm going to put a light tint on mine, I'm just a little worried about inspection. I might get a set from a junk yard and keep them on hand for just that.

Sorry guys, I happen to think smoked looks good on white cars, too.

I used Nite shades, I think I did two good coats. they looked a lot darker at first (to the point I thought Id have to buy new ones) but after a few days and a car wash or two, they lightened up and have since stayed like that.

There is a certain resistor that needs to be wired in-line. Not sure what it is tho. Basically your LED pull less load and cause the relay to flip on and off fast. so either you have to make that relay think it has a load or get a relay that requires less load...if possible......led's are the devil.

Everyone's talking about passing inspection with the black outs, I have them on my Suburban and it would NOT pass with them on, however, mine are snap on in the front and velcro in the back so I just took them off for the inspection and as soon as I got home they were back on. Are they not removable like that on the GP?

Also, on my Suburban I have no fogs so I have to take the blackouts off the headlights at night otherwise I cant see shit. Do you have the same problem Austin ? How do they do at night?

I take them off at night, it's a small hassle but I knew that when I bought them.
I would like to have the same for the tails so I can take them off as needed, but I haven't found any. Been pondering a light tint on them.

Ive got black covers on my headlights and yea definately cant see shit at night. I just turn them on and use my fogs to drive. Gets kinda hairy on backroads tho cuz of the low to the ground illumination. So I just take them off when I go backroads now and leave them on in the city.
