When I purchased my car (used, not at a pontiac dealership) it only came with one key, so I got the dealership to commit to paying for a second key - which cost $98 from the pontiac dealership - and now I'm seeing uncut passkey 3 keys on eBay for around $18-$20and am wondering if anyone has tried them to see if they will work correctly with our cars? Same question regarding remote entry units - alot of positive eBay feedback, but I don't put too much faith in that, so hoping maybe someone here has had some experience with it?

Don't know. I don't have that type of key.

Hello,

I've got no feedback on the keys sold on E-bay.
However, if you have a PK3 system, there is a procedure to "teach" the PCM a new key. If you've got a properly cut key, with the wrong transponder code, it will (at the least), illuminate a MIL.
I don't know if it will disable the car under antitheft or not. There are a lot of variables that I'm unaware of.
If it is a real PK3 key, you can teach the PCM how to recognize it.

Later now,
Clint

Thanks Clint - thought I saw a post not too long ago about "teaching" a new key the proper code/signal. I'm going for it and buying one of these keys, I'll let you guys know if it works or not, because the PK3 keys are overpriced at dealerships and if this seller on ebay is legit it'll save me, and anyone else with PK3 keys, alot of money.

Update: For anyone who does have the PK3, and is looking to get an extra key for significantly cheaper than the dealership charges, there is a seller on eBay with the (unoriginal) name "new_oem_auto_locks" that sells oem PK3 MASTER keys, uncut, for about $15-$20. The keys work fine, once you go through the reprogram procedure, but it is important to note he apparently only sells master keys, not secondary, which once you program a new master key it will not accept another master key, only secondary keys.
Not sure if this post helps anyone, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

why did you need a third key, did you lose one or something?

don't have one of those chipped keys either, but if you were just looking to have one incase you locked your keys in it or something, couldn't you just have a key with no chip on it and just use it to unlock your doors.

i don't know, i'm just rambling on........ smile

Don't think I've ever locked myself out of my car, but I have a bad habit of losing keys... crazy
Wasn't such a problem with my old car (no chip in the key) but I am paranoid of losing my keys and having to pay the dealership their outrageous cost for a new one.
