Ok, just got all of the tuning bugs worked out. (Adv. timing to 17.5*) and the car is running amazing. now it is ready for the strip!

Any ideas on times for this?

3.8, cant really drop a pulley yet with the higher compression

I honestly think that you will be fine to go with a 3.5 or maybe a 3.6. After my tune I am picking up a 3.5 from a local guy. Or are you gonna wait till you get rockers?

Higher compression? I thought since you did the top end swap its now just like a L67, with the top end swap done dont you have the same compression as the L67. And if thats teh case you should be able to go to a 3.4 with no problem. I would have put it on there and tuned it with the smaller pulley on and saw what numbers you had.

The pistons in the L36 are taller, resulting in higher compression. Top swap doesn't eliminate that.

You do have to be careful, but I don't see why with your mods you shouldn't be able to at least get a 3.6" or a 3.5"

i agree with what rook said. Since the pistons stay the same, the compression is higher than an L67 bottom end. This is why the 3.8 pulley on an L36 bottom end is equivalent to a 3.4-3.5 pulley on a GTP

honestly, i was scanning, and still seeing a little bit of knock.

The blowers in these cars are very hot, resulting in inefficiency to begin with, but the smaller the pulley you go, the lower the efficiency. I know that i could probably go with a little smaller of a pulley and be safe, but if i can advance the timing from 10-11* to 17-18* right now, then it is creating just as much, if not more power then a 3.5-3.6 pulley would.

I'm interested in seeing how fast you are. BTW, did you put in rockers or a cam? I can't remember if you did either and your sig only mentions the springs and retainers.

no rockers or a cam. i did the springs and retainers for the future. i read about changing springs and retainers while in the car and decided to do it while they were out. Rockers are next.

Im hoping for a 14.1 or so

I wouldn't be surprised if you managed a high 13 either.

Have you ever been to the track before?

I went to the track in my old GT; I haven't dared go in the GTP yet. :s

It is a different thing entirely. Let us know how it turns out!

Good luck with it... I'm interested in seeing what a top end swap would produce on a GT... My GTP was running 14.4's completely stock, so with the higher compression I would hope you'd pull off high 13's or super low 14's...

Anyone care to speculate on what I should run? I've got the mods in my sig. I really just want to run a 13.99, that's my goal is to hit 13's.

My tires hook pretty well, especially if it's warm outside (having 245's helps!)

Beautiful! I'm waiting till I get my tune done... (April 20th) but I will be at the track on Sunday the 22nd. I'm hoping for an awesome tune that will get me running good and putting down some good numbers!

How bad do you spin? From a stop I can't hook until almost thru 1st gear, and I bark em in second... so that's gonna be a problem for me!

The street is alot diff from the track. In the street dont gun it for them stop give it half to get the tires moveing then hit it. The track on the other hand has alot of stick to it. So your tires will hook. YOu may spin from the being but they will hoook. You know you can just get a set of DRs and you will hook just fine. devilgrin

mine will burn out through 1st. but i have to agree with what D just said, the track is totally different ballgame. with a 2.0 60' time, i didnt spin at all.

Cant wait to see some times from both of you guys!

the track was prepped pretty well. on the street traction is not too good, but i had a 2.0 60' time, so traction wasnt an issue

thanx drummerboy.....might be pushing for the track this friday!!......is 2.0 the best for a 60'......and how do you prep for a launch i know im nto too bad from road races but its completely diff at the track.....does any one raise the rpm's or just tap it a bit let the tires spin a lil grab then punch it?

What the general accepted rule is: Mash the brake, bring the revs up to around 1200rpm or so, then steadily floor the accelerator when you go. If you break loose, you need to slow down on giving it throttle. If you're gripping, try giving it the throttle faster next time. Track prep will be the number one factor into how much gas you can give it off the line, they lay down a VHT compound that acts like a sticky coating. It will be nothing like street racing.

2.0 60' is pretty good for street tires. with slicks you can see sub-1.5's but you just powerbrake to around 1300 and ease into the throttle. You do not want the tires to slip at all.

not to get into a pissing match, but to go from 2.0 60' to sub 1.5's will take a LOT more than tires. i've raced for about 20 years now and even to drop 1/10 in the 60' is no easy feat. going from d/r's to full slicks dropped me .1. especially in a fwd car that isn't making a ton of power. 1.4 60' times are usually 450+ whp cars.

just to clarify, i wasn't talking about my gtp.

i know that. i was just making a point that a 2.0 60' time is not the best that you can do. i was just saying that there are sub 1.5 60' GP's
