I need to get dyno'd again. There was a dyno-day set for the local F-body group here that I got signed up for. Something happened and the guy the headed the whole thing up got fired, dyno day cancelled.
I'm kinda glad it didn't go down, because in a couple of weeks I'll be getting a DHP and I will then have the chance to compare each PCM on the dyno.
Truly be able to tell which one dyno's better than the other.

Should we start a guessing game?
The closest guess gets nothing, but it may be fun.
We've got a few days.
What do you think 4rsssssssfed?

thats cool, I dont think you really need to dyno it to know which one is better though, I'm 90% sure the DHP will dyno a lot better than the intense, but it will be cool to see by how much

I think you are thinking of crank horspower, and yes, all years 97-2003 were rated 240 crank horse power (200 whp)

Most auto-trannied cars lose about 20% of the hp through losses in the tranny and rear-ends. Manuals don't lose as much.

Auto's lose so much because the tranny is a big hydraulic pump there really is no direct mechanical connections. So as the bands slip hp is lost. Where as manuals rely on a friction clutch and is a more of a direct mechanical linkage then the auto.

so you're telling me a 1000 hp car would use 200 of that power to run the tranny? something not right there.

Not that the tranny uses that 20% just that with the way auto tranny's are designed you lose about 20%. If you do a google on crankshaft hp vs wheel horspower you should find more info that will explain it better.

A 1000hp car will not loose anywhere near that much because most run a direct drive system (Lenco) so that they get the most out of it. Even the classes that are designed for automatics, they still are built to give back the horsepower. I.E. last year at a dyno run I watched a car tune at 1650chp, then axle dyno'd at 1602whp. not much loss.
But, if you have the money, you don't loose much right? cheers

yea... I guess so. but losing 40hp? How much can the stock trannies take anyways in GTP's? My guess is somewhere around 320hp before things start breaking.

It's not that our tranny's are bad because of that it's all auto trannies. It has to do with physics. HP loss is about 17%-22% on any given automatic tranny powered car. FWD is actually experiences a smaller loss the a RWD. Only because your not taking that power and changing directions by 90*s and spinning gears in a heavy oil. Many factors play into dynoying. Gear selection, tire size, alignment etc. Remember a dyno only measure how fast you can get a known weight to spin. There are fancier dynos that will take input supplied by the operator and can a more precise reading.
