Ok here is a good question that we need good feedback on. On a new motor that was supplied with a traditional oil from the factory how long should you wait before switching to a synthetic oil. 1 oil change/3000 miles 2 oil changes 6000 miles? or do you go close to the recommended 7500 miles in the GM owner manual and then change to synthetic (1 oil change)?

This is a heated debate between me and my dad
(dodge owner) I want some input of what you all have done or recommend.

Hercman I know you have some input on this.

Let me know so I can cheers

I would't wait synthetic oil is a much better break in oil less chance for initial wear.

I wouldn`t wait for syntetic, but it is recomended that you put a slighly thinner oil, at least for the first two oil changes, ( I would go with 4K miles if using syntetic ) and stay off the old hammer during that very important "brake in period" after the two oil changes you can go back to 10w-30 drive your car like you stole it. again this is recomended not a law.

Go ahead on your first 3k oil change and change to synthetic. If you swap a cam or are on a "new" motor it is best to break it in with the dino oil for the first grand or two then change to your favorite synthetic.

I have 3000 on the clock, and am ordering my amsoil tommorow, will have it switched out by the end of the week. BTW i will be running slightly more than 3000 miles an oil change on the synthetic oil from amsoil. Havent decided how far but from my experiance with it on heavy equipment i will run no less than 7500 miles..
