It's a 97.

If you have the 8 speaker system and you're looking for a 4" speaker I can help you out. I have a pair that I've been looking to get rid of, they both work perfectly. If you need a 6x9" sorry I just sold my last one about a month ago. PM me if you're interested moodman.

I have my stock 6x9's layin around. And Luckily were both in charlotte, but i've gotta check with my dad before i can sell em, cause he wants me to keep em incase we ever re-sell the car so i can keep my stereo, which is probably smart. I also have the stock head unit and everything, works good but wasn't loud enough, or quite the best quality for my tastes. it'd be good to ahve a little money to go towards my subs.

True but 97-98's had an 8-speaker option with 4" speakers on the rear deck as well as the 6x9's. moodman and I both have that option on our cars.

it is definately the 4" that is blown, it is very anoying. 98greengt is right, the back has one 6x9 and one 4" per side and the front has a 6.25 " i think, and one tweeter per side. that of course is with the 8 speaker option.

The front ones are 5.25" and don't worry about the blown one, it won't be much longer and you'll have one that works perfect wink

I would get all four new speakers. You will be amazed how much better new 6x9s will sound compared to stock ones. I prefer Crutchfield.com for my audio purchases. They send very detailed instructions on removing interior to access the speakers, as well as adapters so the aftermarket speakers plug into the factory harness without splicing. I would order bass blockers for the 4" speakers which may help them from being blown in the future.

I would also recommend all new speakers across the back. Crutchfield is a good place to research but eBay is much better for purchases, got all my speakers for half of Crutchfield's price there. As for the harnesses, the ones provided only worked for the 4" speakers because for some reason the 6x9 one's were reversed so I had to solder the old harnesses onto the new speakers. With that said I am very satisfied with my JBL's.

Quick question for you audio buffs though. The 8-speaker system that both moodman and I have also has an amp which directs the low's to the 6x9 speakers and the high's to the 4" speakers. When I got my 6x9's I decided to go with 3-ways because of the better quality of sound they provide but now I'm thinking it was a waste. Since the high's are being directed away from the 6x9's is it worth it to have them as 3-ways? Also would an aftermarket amp fix this?

Sorry for the threadjack but I think this could help out moodman as well.

98greengt, i don't have an amp, all the sound is going to the 4 in i got from you since that is the only speaker hooked up on that side, where would the amp be? (i don't have the bose option)
here are some pics you guys might find funny

BACK SEAT AFTER I REMOVED THE SEAT

HERE ARE THE NEW ROCKFORD FOSGATE 6X9

i got the 6x9 for 29.99 at best buy, they are last years model and they are a floor display, not a dam thing wrong with them. 170 dollar speakers for 30 bucks! i'm not going to use any 4 in and rockford components come next week.

Using 4" in the rear is mainly for rear passengers to get mid-highs. It won't help people in the front, since most of their sounds comes from the doors. This is why custom kicker speakers are popular, to further direct the sound at the passengers then just toward the inside of the car.

Best setup is typically 6.5" components with separate tweeter in the front. Then run some nice 6x9s in the rear. 3-way speakers are typically a waste of money. Focus individual speakers on a specific task (high, mid, or low).

I am also looking at at replacing the rear speakers on my 97 GTP. Does anyone know what OHM rating the stock speakers are, as I plan on keepin the factory head unit and CD chnger.

I use to have an all rockford fosgate setup up front and back, but eventually after a year had a problem w/ em cuz the foam on the surround is not built well on those speakers..So i got some infinity references and man they can take w/e you throw at em and will still perform and i've had em for a good year and a half and no problems, play solid and sound brand new like i just bought them everyday.
