Today was going good, got my coffee... 5 mins from work, I hear a snap from my left rear. Appears my Left Rear Torsion Bar snaped. Anyone have instructions on how to replace this. I have never done one before ( and a computer tech not a mechanic )
thanks in advance,

Hey man,
What part is that exactly? I'm not familiar with a torsion bar?
Can you take a pic? Might be able to help you out once I know what it is.

I believe the torsion bar is actually two bars, and one of them is welded to the frame. If that is the case, I suggest taking it a mechanic that is trustworthy (That wont rip you off). But I would definetly get someone that knows what they are doing check it out for you.

no digital camera so no pic... it's the bar that holds up the leafs? not really sure, if you look between the tire and the molding it's right there, but on mine it's snapped and hanging.. = / I checked the " grand prix problems " section of the site and was unable to find anything.

I dont think that its a torsion bar. They are used as springs. Are you possibly talking about the trailing arm? The one that goes from the center of the rear axle area to the bottom of the rear wheel hub? Those should be pretty straight forward nuts and bolts on each end.

Thats why I asked, Shag. I was figuring that he meant trailing arm. Because if he managed to break the other stuff back there - he must have been off-roading or something really crazy! Anyhoo, I've replaced mine before when I twisted it out of whack. I just got the car up on the lift and took a wrench to the thing. A couple of bolts later, all done. I think the part was like 4 / 8 / 12 bucks. My memory is kind of hazy - since it was a few years ago, but I remember it wasn't much

I agree with Jeff. You either have torsion bars, leaf springs or coil springs. I dont think our cars have torsion bars. You can usually pick up trailing arms at a gm dealer for relatively cheap.
