So I was riding with my friend that has a 1997 Grand Prix GTP coupe and I noticed he had a tint strip on window on the inside that went pretty low on the front top portion of the windsheild. I thought this was neat and I asked him where he got it but he said it was just on there when he bought the car. So my question is where can I get something like that that would be for sale? I know ill need about 60" width of tint and about anywhere from 8-12"'s down, im lookin to tint it really low from the top of the window. I'm lookin to install myself aswell as a DIY project so I just need some advice as of where to get such stuff.

tint places do it, but IMO i think if your gonna throw tint on the front window, do the whole thing. also tint is a very frustrating and hard material to work with, very hard to get wrinkles and such out of it once you get one.

By front window I mean the one that you view everything out of, not the front driver and passenger but the main front windsheild....I dont feel like tinting the entire windsheild because I know that at night its harder to see threw ne tint at all...and not to mention i just wouldnt want it on the front unless it was a strip at the top. I just want a strip towards the top, i found a kid that has the rear window peice for 24 bucks and i was thkin about just modifying that to fit the front window top portion.

I wish I could just go to a tint shop but the nearest one is atleast 1 and a half to almost 2 hours away from my location, quite honestly im not even going to think about driving that far just to get my front window strip tinted. The guy that tinted my windows proffesionally is a guy who works for LLumar compnay that makes tint and he put mine on my car but he only does it in the summertime. I may just wait till sumemrtime rolls around but idk im pretty sure his prices would be quite high for that and id save alot of money by doing it myself and im pretty confident i could do it easiley. I just need to find a place that sells the tint in the size i need or similar to that so i can cut it down and what not.

Auto zone has tint kits, various darkness's and instructions, im with boosten, tinting is hecktick, also on the windsheild it is curved so it is very difficult to get it straigh and bubble free, but if you have the patience the go ahead, get you some soapy water and a spray bottle a credit card and the tint and give it a try, dont expect it to go on simple, it will be a b*tch to install. i have had 1st had experience, since i did all my windows to limo tint. saved me a bunch of money but cost me alot of anger. haha.

Be careful though. Tinting the whole windshield is illegal; in Texas, you can only tint the top 6 inches.

I'm sure how much you can tint probably varies from state to state.

I'm with Boosten and '97GPGT, I would get it done professionally unless you have had experience with tint before. I've seen other people (individuals/car owners) do it before and massively screw it up. The pros do it best, and you will appreciate it that much more!

A friend of mine used a tint kit on his friend's car, and hours later the rear window shattered. Oddly enough he had tinted his own windows with no problems... crazy

Look at the side of your windshield. There are three letters, "as1" I believe. Tinting below that is illegal inmost states. I had my Black 01 Monte tinted 5% down to there. It was awesome, except when I was the first or second car at a light. I had to duck down to see the lights change. I had my 04 Monte and now my 03 GP done the same way, but 20%. Most shops will tint in a line from the bottom of your rearview mirror over to the "as1" mark.

Here's a link to tint laws, last updates July 07
http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Consumer_Info/auto_statelaws.html

According to this link, it is pretty much illegal in Iowa to tint your front windows. Most glass has a visible light transmission of 85 and you can only go to 70.

Sorry I have no pictures of my tint I'll be stopping by walmart to see if they have the peice I need to upload my pics onto my computer but anyhow I went to Oreily's and bought 5% window tint film and put it across my front window and it applied nicley, i removed all the airbubbles and trimmed the peices and it looks amazing now. It has no air bubbles or wrinkles to it I guess tinting it wasnt that hard to do it cause I had a friend help me out and we had it done in 20 minutes.

believe me you will care when you get pulled over for speeding and then you get another ticket for your tint... IMO i dont think tinting the windsheild or oding it yourself is a good idea

Well I did it myself, looks really nice and I went below the AS1 marker but im already gonna get pulled over for tint if im speeding neway cause ive got illegal tint on my front passenger and driver door. So at this point im not going to care, if i must remove the strip up front itll be easy cuz it only costed me 10 bucks from Oreilys:)
