upload your scans here.

also dont just turn TCS off pull the fuse. even if you just turn it off from the inside it will still retard timing. its a single 10a fuse in the engine bay. TCS actually hurts your launch it helps you in no way.

I'm sorry but you have got to have the record for the slowest top swap around and with an XP cam we're talking Guiness ,get your tuning down just do'nt run to the track ,I do'nt mean to be so critical but it just seems you're getting a way a head of your self .Chico (pops)

Yeah you definitley need TCS off. It cuts power by dropping spark and fuel... very bad for your 60' time.

Three things

TCS off.
Purchase HP Tuner. It needs more fuel on the low end(?)
Get some practice in.

EDIT: Electric supercharger, eh? Um. which slip was that? When you debated its usefulness, what did he say? I imagine he feels a difference and believes it is more power. Its acutally losing power by reducing its vacuum pressure.

With a cam, he should be running rich. I'll let guys that have delt with it debate that though, just going off what drummerboy has told me about my car. I haven't gotten far enough to even worry about tuning my car yet.

Well, his is -2.5ish LTFT's, which is slightly rich, it's a pretty good number really. Some tuners are set on achieving 0 LTFT at WOT, but most see between -5 and 2 to be acceptable. But that is because ZZP tuned his PCM for the XP cam and the top swap.

I didn't have my PCM tuned until a couple weeks after I did my top swap and old cam, but during that time I did some scanning to see if it was knocking at all, and had -12.5 LTFT's at cruise and 980-990 O2's at WOT.

Better to be way rich than way lean, but way rich is still not good for the car. Now, with my XP cam (and I haven't done much tuning at all yet, just a bunch of scanning...) I'm actually running a bit lean (~900 mV O2's @ WOT)

I hope that helps you understand a little better Rook! smile

Doh!!!

Yup, that would be the cause of the significant timing reduction at the launch.

Fuse #28 under the hood.... I pull it every time just so I don't have to remember to turn TCS off every time I stage.
Sometimes I bark the tires on the 1-2 shift. If that happens and you have the TCS on you will lose even more time.
Yes, you will have to learn to launch, but hey! This is racing!

T/C off with street tires at full presure. I don't think its too bad. Oh yeah thats only with my intake and my D/P with 5* of KR. (Found out my car was runnin lean a few days after going to the track)

He's got about 7 psi, you have 0. Something is def. not right with your car, though. My GT with just bolt-ons is a high 14's car @ 90-91. Of course, a tuner is the best mod money can buy, I found that out years ago after buying my PT.

Well if you go as far as putting a cam in your GT, why would you not want to tune it? You don't tune just for power, you can also adjust your shift points, timing in cruise ranges (to increase MPG), do case learns, read/clear engine DTC's, scan the car, etc.

It really depends on how far you plan to take the car, and how long you plan to keep it. If you're gonna get rid of the GP in a year, then don't bother with a tuner (it'll take you that long just to get used to it). If you know you'll have this car for many years, then that $400 is nothing compared to what you get out of it.

thanks bad,
well to get down to it i will prob swap all my parts to a gtp at the end of next summer when i have more money and drop to like a 3.4 pulley with colder plugs and other various supoorting stuff but i do want my track times down for now what do you think i should do go to my engine shop that redid my motor and see if they can tune it more aggressive for the track?

You will NEED a scanner of some sort once you get some boost, to keep an eye on KR. If you put that 3.4" on the M90 once you have the L67 w/out the proper supporting mods, you're asking for trouble.

That all depends. What are your 60' times? Do you have any timeslips you could scan and post up? What is your track prep when you run?
