I know you guys might think I'm crazy, but I want to cut off my Borla mufflers and put on some 40 series...I had them on my 2000 GP SE and that sounded a lot meaner than my GTP...

I highly recommend NOT driving with out some kind of tip stickin out the back of the car. I took a small ride without tips and the sound was nice for bout 5 mins then the reverb started to mess with my ears. Put the stock tips on for now and no more reverd inside the car. Before the sound was trapped inside the bumper cover being amplified big time. The tips move the sound out beyond the body. smile

I did that when I had my F/M's put on. Reverb was soo bad, and loud too.

someone posted not too long ago that we hadnt heard from you in a while Herc!...even then we speculated that you were out driving around listening to the new "music"...I know where you're comin from...now I cant wait for the chance to get onto the highway...I slow down on the entrance ramp just so I can blast to about 80...I roll through the neighborhood in the lower gears just to hear it rumble...I even let it run at the gas pump sometimes so I can listen to it idling while I fill the tank (yeah I know, thats a no-no)...I tell my wife all the time, "now it sounds like it belongs to me!"...painted the wheels today too...man does that bad boy look lethal now!...oh and GdGTP, if you aint happy with your Borlas and you have the bucks, change 'em dude...enjoying hearing your car every time you drive it is worth it!

I wish I did have the money...but I'm about to buy headers, so...ya know and I need to tires pretty soon (and those aren't cheap for 18's) But, I could afford it if someone were to perhaps...BUY my Borla...Only been used for 2 1/2 months...Still very shiny...I'm just not so partial to the sound...Some F/M would be so great...

40 series eh! I was thinking of those or the 50 series. I was thinking that the drone would be too much for the 40's. Sounds like it is for you too. Do the resonated tips help alot. How much drone are you getting with the tips?

I put the stock tips on for now there is some mild drone nothing my stock stereo can't overcome with a mid level volume setting. And it's just the sound I was looking for. I am much more aware of RPM changes now without having to look at the tac then I was before.

Well i figured it would work because the same SLP cat back for the 97 fits the 04 according to grandprixstore.com ??? i wouldnt see where there could be any variance between one bolt on cat back to the next becuase they both are 'bolt on' that are designed to fit the same car. Input on this?

They got wise in 04 and stopped using the U-bend.

No drone at all with resonated tips. Still sounds mean. Still loud enough to trigger alarms. Every now and then when driving through my neighborhood, I give the throttle a little burp as I drive past parked cars to find out which ones have alarms.
crazy

What is everyone's opinion of the sound the Borla exhaust system gives the GP? I want something that has a nice rumble to it, but not so loud that it drones in the cabin or sounds like a ricer driving by.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Well it still makes oil changes easier to take off the tire on the passenger side. Also I have already put some stereo equipment in and as far as teh way the interior is installed its easier to tear down and put together very quickly. other than that the underside and under hood of the car is as close to identical as it gets.....

Yeah, if someone has some recent Borla GTP sounds to post up, we would be very appreciative.

I know a bunch of GP guys who have the Magnaflows on and are happy with those.

HercMan did you get any info on the super 40 F/M`s??

the folks at perf peddlers seem like nice peeps but not too product sauvy.

i read what they had on the sper 40 but when i asked ?? they really couldnt answer me, are the super 40 legal (noise). or do you know if i might be asking for problems from the MAN.

i was also thinking about some borla tips but i dont know if that would cancel out any of my F/M growl...

hammer so she growls to wake up the neigbors lol no

Noise level won't get you in trouble with the man.
A good set of tips make a big difference. I tried running mine without tips the sound was unbearable all the noise was being bounced off the bumper cover and reverberating back into the car. Put the stock tips back on and problem was gone. Just ensure what ever tips you use that they stick out a little past the bumper cover. From about 30 feet away at idle you really don't notice.
