This has barely been discussed here, but has anybody used or experimented with Toluene?

Its basically a fuel you can mix with your gas and raise the overall octane. I'm considering using it occassionally when I build my timing adjuster switch.
Here is an article I copied over for those desiring more info: http://www.zuulmusic.com/csur/viewtopic.php?t=331

I've got a 5 gallon can sitting in my Dad's shop right now that I got from Sherwin Williams for ~$30.

And I'm down to the 1/4 tank I wanted to be at before adding a gallon of toluene to the tank.

For a grand prix with an 18 gallon tank, already using 93 octane gas, the equation for the toluene is;

(558+7x)/6=y where X is gallons of toluene and Y is final octane rating.

Note that this equation will ONLY work with 93 octance gas in an 18 gallon tank. If you have a different car, you will need a different formula.

I'm going to go to the gas station now and we'll see what happens... BBS

Ok, I'm a ******* moron. I went and filled the tank... BEFORE I put the toluene in...

I'll update when I get it in.

BTW, toluene smells like paint thinner... (which I believe it is)

I think a guy in the Portland club has tried this. Not sure though.

I think in general, the Portland club prefers race fuel or torco.

I want to try it but I'm not ready to go back to the track yet... probably I'll be back up there in September sometime and I'll probably throw in a gallon or so of the stuff.

Hopefully I'll get a new PB since my current times are with the stock pulley and different cam.

I put a gallon and a 1/4 in my tank just a bit ago. We'll see tomorrow if it improves my times any.

BTW, with the top-swap, XP cam, and stock pulley, do you guys think I should be running better than I am? My best is 14.596 1/4 mile and a 2.148 60'

I need a pic of that slip btw lol.

I might buy some pacesetters tonight so we'll see what happens...
