A long time ago I remember reading a "cheap mod" where they suggested using a longer oil filter than stock. The thought was that it would provide more surface area to filter our particles.

Does anyone else do this? I am thinking about doing it. I figure with my K&N filter, my oil is probably more dirty than it used to be. Just wondering if a longer filter might help offset this.

I read that too, and i remember that you have to be aware of your tranny mount cause if it was damaged the tranny hanging too low could break the larger filter and you could damage your engine cause a massive oil leak.

The filter is on the opposite side of the tranny mount. Unless there's something that causes the front of the motor to drop when the tranny mount fails, I would imagine it's the front motor mount.

I use the larger filter on both of my rigs that only call for the smaller filter.
The filter I use is AC Delco PF52
The filter called for is AC Delco PF47
You can cross referrence to get the filter of your choice, or find the number that fits the early 90's 4.3L V6.

Delco PF52 here as well. If your lower motor mount goes bad, you'll have to put a jack/wood under the oil pan to get the filter off (ask me how I know). But, so long as your lower motor mount is good, you'll be just fine. My filter got pretty dented up, too, so they're pretty durable (won't bust the first hit against the subframe)

Whatever you do, just don't use a fram oil filter. If you're gonna be cheap, get the supertech walmart brand, they're better than the fram ones.

I asked Zoomer at ZZP about clearance issues using the taller filter and he replied that the only filter that they have had problems with when they were testing was the GM/AC Delco brand having slight clearance issues. I use a Mobil brand filter, number M-201 in mine cause of that
