I had a friend with the same factory rims like T-BAT and he wanted to know what you used to spray them black with, and if it can be found at a local store like autozone, pep boys, etc.

confused

Damn you all!

You know I can't resist something like this.....expect my current tri-stars to be gloss black in a week smile

I figure its a cheap fix until I find the exact rims I want...I hate the way they look right now.

Probably do the calipers while I am at it...

I bet those wheels will look sweet in gloss black! At this rate, looks like the second payment will be a little late... wink

I'd suggest going to www.tirerack.com and buying G3 caliper paint.
That stuff at Amazon is laquer, G2 is a polymer that works with a hardener. G2 is resistant to all kinds of chemicals, and the G2 cost about the same as that laquer stuff.

Prep is the most important part. You gott get everything REAL clean. Get at it with a wire brush. If you don't it'll start chipping off. If I remember I'll get a pic of mine, they're looking a bit like crap due to improper prep. I gotta do them over again.

Ok, I've seen duplicolor before in stores but does it has a clear coat in them or just regular black paint.

I bought 3 cans of gloss black and 2 of clear coat

My calipers are already really clean with factory paint still on them, plus i have a dremel tool with all the fixins, should be a piece of cake.

I did both my wheels and calipers with high-temp engine enamel that I bought at the local Autozone...but Bobby is right, prep is everything...I removed the wheels and cleaned them first. then I took the scotchbrite to them to knock off any shine from the factory coating, then a quick wipe down with a rag wet with mineral spirits...after they dried I taped off the tires with duct tape and then shot away...I gave them several rounds, allowing them to get tacky between coats...in all I shot three cans of paint on four wheels.
the calipers I removed entirely (since I was installing new rotors and pads anyway)...I took each part to the wire wheel on my bench grinder to completely get rid of the rust. I then primed all the parts and let that dry for an hour or so before I shot the color on...that was over a year ago and they have heldup nicely and showing no signs of rust or discoloration.
