Whats the difference b/w the 4t60e and the 4t65e. B/c I recently found out that the 97s have the 4t60e and not the 4t65e.

The 4T60-E has a slightly smaller torque converters and I think it still is partly controlled by vacuum. The 4T65-E has a slightly larger torque converter and is all eletricly controlled. I don't think there's really too much of a difference in life or performance

You know by your model and year.

I'm not 100% sure, but the 60s were used in 3.1L and 97 3.8's. Any 98+ 3.8L will have the 65, with the GTP's having the HD version.

Late model 97s came with the 65. To tell the difference the 65 has an electrical connection on the top and the 60 doesn't.

00+, all GPs came with the 4t65e. My 3100 has the 4t65e. Unless you have a GTP (different trans code), just pop the trunk and look for the RPO code M15, if I remember correctly. That's the 4t65e.

Do you know when they started puttin them in the 97s. I'm going to look and see about the electrical lines, but just wanted to see when they decided to switch it over.

GTs do not have the HD. They also have a different final ratio. The GT/SE have a 3.29:1 and the GTP with the HD has a 2.94:1
