I'll skip the story and get to the question. What can be damaged by jumper cables being hooked up backwards on the jumper car when jumping my Grand Prix? This happened this morning, not by me, I know better. I just want to put my paranoid worries at bay. Everything seems to be fine. The car seemed to have a little less "pep", but that may be me just being paranoid.

I don't know if the PCM can be damaged, but to be safe you can take it in and get flashed.
I don't know.

If there is no glaring problems I wouldn't worry about it.

By glaring, do you mean obvious?

My thoughts are that it depends on which battery was more powerful at the time, which I would guess would be the one in the car that was jumping you. If their battery has, say 600 amps ready to go, and you 'dead' battery has say 50 amps, then the more powerful battery's polarity is in favor, and the current is going to flow opposite of what it should in your car's electrical system.... very bad! however I beleive that there are diodes in the system to prevent things from getting messed up badly, so you're probably fine laugh

My next door neighbors son hooked the cables on wrong and my car almost died. He does have a father and so car stuff to him is new.....After I showed him the right way, and got his car started, I let mine run for about 15 min. to make sure nothing shorted out. But believe me, I almost had a heartattack when the engine almost drowned out.......

My question would be why did you let the mechanical moron(who apparently has a father???)hook up battery cables on your car?the most common thing affected in reversing polarity is a burnt out alternator.Chico.
