Battery Cover

The 1997 GM Service manual that I have shows a battery cover / heat shield installed on the battery. My car no longer has one. Is this a 1997 thing or do all GP's come standard with that battery cover?

My '03 does not have one by my old '98 did. None of the replacement batteries had one. I think that it was a cheap piece of foam anyways.
