the caliper kit. That reduces unsprung weight (for handling) and increases the number of pistons clamping down on the rotor.

For the best of both worlds, get a 12" F-Body aluminum dual-piston brake kit. And SS brake lines. And start running DOT 4 or 5 fluid. Wow, that would be nice...lol

F-bodies have 2 pistons and 12" rotors.

The 12" rotor upgrade is still the stock 1 piston caliper, you're just upgrading to 12" rotors.

The F-bodies are better, but they are also alot more expensive.

From what I've read, you'll need 12" rotors to run those calipers anyway.

It's alot more than $150 dollar difference I would say. The F-bodies are around $300 and that is just the calipers, banjo bolts and brackets. No pads or rotors, those are extra.

The 12" brake upgrade can be had for 8under $50 if you can find an Imp or MC at the junkyard, they have the 12" brakes from stock, you just need the caliper brackets. Or you can spend the $50-80 bucks at GM and get the Intrigue brake upgrade that has those brackets in it.

So it's either $300 + pads/rotors or $50 + pads/rotors.

junk yards in brooklyn for some reason dont have american cars i tried looking for it.

From zzp its 350 for everthing but centric rotors are 200$ more thats why im wondering what are they. And will i be able to use standards or will i have to get centric.

Are you talking about oldsmobiel intrigue?? or it means something else

just do the fronts for now, see if you cant get a used set of calipers for the rears off maybe a fbody forum or even a junkyard.

why are you wanting to change the rears as well?

under heavy braking most of the weight is shifted forward putting more stress on the front brakes. Upgrade those and put some better pads and rotors on the rears and be done with it.

I'm looking for brake upgrade for my car too but I will worry about that later in 2010 since I have lot of other plans this year.

BoostenGTP02: Since you already done that in your old black car. Do you have picture for F-body brake kit with stock rear rotor? I have no luck to find them full shot of car. All of them always use "close up" shot on front wheel only. I'm curious how they look on front 12" rotor with stock rear rotor.

Ohio club already did swap from 2004+ GXP on 97-03 model. It is really working. I'm still undecide about GXP brake kit or F-body brake kit.

GXP's are 13" brakes. The stock 16" wheels will not fit with these.

You gonna leave those 18" wheels on in the winter? even though you don't drive it in the winter the snow, slush, rain, sand and salt will rust them even if they just sit there.

Well I'm going to looking for storage after all project plan is over. I'm not sure about brake plan yet. Mostly, I really like F-body look than GXP brake kit.

Other person have a good point about if tire went flat.

Like example. I have flat front tire on 12" rotor. Take my rear wheel to front then put spare tire on rear with stock rotor. I know spare tire won't work on 12" rotor.

You should nut run a spare on the front anyways. It is bad for your differential.

Yes, it will fit but for whoever own crosslace (silver & gold rims) won't fit.

12" rotor will work 16" torque star, tri-spoke, ordonez1307's wheel (forgot what name of this wheel)

12" rotor will not work 16" crosslace.

That's how I got info. from clubgp few months ago.

Good write up to do gxp brakes. On page 7 you can see that the torque star wheels fit.

Not bad looking. Look like front have big rotor and rear is small rotor

Yeah the GXP set up is a 13" rotor in the front and a 12" rotor in the rear. I am not sure if I want to do the GXP set up or just go with the GM 12" upgrade and save some money. Tough decision.
