i am in the market for a good daily driver. i have always loved the grand prix gtp's but i dont know a whole lot about them yet. my price range is between 5-6000. there are a lot for sale in that price range in my area. what should i look for in buying one. i know i want heated leather, sunroof, and the heads up thingy but what else. also what year should i look for.
also i dont have children so i was thinking about going with a 2 door. i do like to cruise around with my freinds though. is the back of a 2 door a lot smalleer than a 4. also are the 2 doors a lot faster. if they arent i think i will probably lean more towards the 4 door.

2 and 4 doors are same speed, 2 door might be a little lighter but nothing you will notice, its still a heavyweight. 4 door would be cheaper insurance. its all preference, i personally dont like the look of coupes, doors are too big, look funny but everyone has diff tastes.
Best year is 99-03. 97-98 were still working out some quirks. 97 is its own animal but 99 still has some improvements over a 98.
I would find a nice 99+ 4 dr. KM's dont really matter too much, these motors go forever, trannys though are a different story. Make sure u test drive it and listen for any tranny slipping and make sure it shifts nice. Tranny problems are killer on these cars. Try to get one with no rust and dings.
I think the coupe has a little less legroom in the back but still comfortable.

thanks i was leaning toward trying to get one with less than 100,000 miles but it seems like these cars age really well. i have seen ones with 150,000 miles on them with no rips on the seats or fading paint.it seems like a lot of the ones that have over 100,000 say that they recently replaced the tranny. it seems like it would be better to find one with a newer tranny with more miles and pay less since thats what goes bad. if the tranny was replaced how do i know if the put the hd tranny in and not the regular one?

it was most likely just rebuilt using the same if not better/stronger internals. If they replaced something like the tranny they should have documentation of it, look at that and it should tell you or give the shop a call.

97-03 2 door GP's are actually longer than the 4 door versions. Some specs will show them equal, some specs will show the difference between the two. I think it's something like an inch or so. And everyone knows that the 99's were the best year made, hands done, end of discussion and I'm goin' for the thread lock button. ...and the heads up thingy rules.

hmmm... so 99 is the best year why? i am guessing its because they worked out all the bugs but what makes it different from a 2000?
i will probably just try to find the best one in my price range by looking at options, year, color, condition, and mods. and not worry about if its 2 or 4 door because i see pros and cons on both and like them both

Get a 2002 and a 4 door its better all the way around. Get a regular Gt not a GTP. The regular GT gets 22 mpg around town and can use regular gas a big plus!!!!! You dont need a supercharged motor.

Yeah, but all the money you save in gas is going right in parts and labor to replace those 3100 intake gaskets :b

Also consider than a GTP requires 91 Octane fuel. Not sure if you knew that.

If it has Leather it has heated drivers seat.
2002 was the last year of the 2 door.
2000 was the last year of Digital Climate Control.
2 doors and 4 doors both have the same length. We measured each in my garage with 2 levels plumb with the bumpers and a tape measure. Found the 2 door to be about 1/2 inch longer. These cars have tolerances so you can blame that for the differences in length.
4 doors weigh just a bit more because of the door hardware.... I'm guessing less than 100lbs. Not enough to worry about whether it's going to slow you down unless you are looking at running for a speed record.
The Heads Up thingy is available in MOST GTP's..... It's hard to find one with out it.

Best years are '99-02. As stated, '97-98 were working out quirks. '03s have some unique parts and different electrical items making future plans for hotrodding (if you have any) difficult.

I honestly think the white one on autotrader is priced pretty good. unless the tranny is going or there is something wrong with the car, id say go for it. after all white is the best color.

I'd recommend upgrading them to driving lights anyway, the stock fogs have poor light output.

Get a 2002-2003 GTP, its newer and if you want to mod your car, a less mileage car is a way to go.

ok so i went to look at the car and at first glance it was great. we took it for a ride and it was quick and shifted crisp. there was a couple of loose things in the interior and in kinda smelled like smoke but that was ok. it wasnt untill we popped the hood that i noticed a problem. he said that it had a rebuilt s/c on it but it looked like a lot more work had been done. things had mismatched bolts and some things looked out of place. the pcm wasnt even bolted down it was just loose floping around. then i noticed scratches on the radiator support. it looks like it was banged back in place. the paint was a different white then the rest of the car. the headlights were also filled with condensation. the guy wouldnt admit it but this car was in an accident and probably had the piss beat out of it. i told him if it doesnt sell i will give him 4 grand. o yeah and the front valve cover was leaking oil and there was smoke pouring off of the exhaust manifold. i was honestly afraid it was going to burst into flames right in front of me
