My tranny keeps skipping, I took it to the dealership and they said I will need a new trasmition soon. Is there anyway I can put a manual transmition into my 97 grand prix, instead of the automatic one it already has and where could I find one? Thanks!

It's possible, but it's very costly.

Posted earlier in this thread:

"Manual Trans Flywheel 428.00
Having mounts made 350.00
Special axles 425.00 per side
A Getrag M27 trans (not the greatest but somewhat strong) 450.00
Spacer shim which he modified 35.00
Starter which he had to grind out the nose cone
50.00"

-----------------------

The main problem with putting a standard in, is that there's no FWD manual tranny that can handle the 280lb ft of torque that the supercharged engine puts out. You'd have a better chance of reliability with a N/A GT.

Don't forget a bellhousing or adapter. In all my forum browsing I have yet to hear of some one who actually installed a manual tranny in the FWD set up on the GPs. The only one I've seen was the RWD conversion that was done.

Not to mention the Clutch, Pressure Plate, Clutch linkage(all the way to the pedal) Shifter(with linkage) and console modifications...... Did I forget anything? Besides the fact that most of the linkage would have to be custom fitted?

If I recall correctly, I think there's word of a possibility of a manual tranny for the GP's coming out soon. It's barely in the testing stages.

This has been on everyone's wish list since '97. Maybe they'll actually do it.

Yup, and they are getting the help of GM I think.
