I was under the assumption that if one setting on your blower stopped, they all stopped, but nope, I now only have 2-5. Which is kind of cool, because my setting 1 used to just make a lot of clicking noise anyway.

What part and how do I repair this? Its not on my top 5 things to do, but I gotta start somewhere.

Thanks guys. cheers

you need to get you a blower resistor if you want the 1 setting to work. it's up under the dash somewhere. there is a topic about half the page down that is talking about the blower resistor location.

It starts with 1 then slowly degrades till all you have is setting 5 (no resistance needed to run on 5)

Are any of the replacements better quality than OEM, or is this something that will happen over and over?

I haven't heard of any one complaining that the replacement went bad as well. Water down the cowl vent onto the blower motor tends to speed up failure. You might want to ensure the cowl seal is still in proper position.

Okay you all seem knowledgeable about this problem so here is my question and current problem. I have a 98 GT. The problem is only setting 5 works on the blower you all have described how to fix this problem but here is where it gets tricky. My GT has the safety light feature you know lights come on automaticaly even with the headlight switch off. But should I set the blower motor controls on any of the settings 1-4 the lights will go off, if I turn the light swithc on the lights will then again work, also if I turn the blower switch to 5 they will come on again. I am going to replace the blower resistor this weekend but should that not fix the problem how do I fix it and where would I begin looking? Also I am very mechanically inclined and fail to see what the blower and the headlights have in common and why they would share the same circuitry, if someone could explain this to me if for no other reason than to get that thought out of my head I would appreciate it. I have had it into the dealer (2 diff. dealers) and they could not locate or explain the problem and it cost me over 500 bucks for absolutely nothing being done to my GP.

<< Scratches head.

One problem at a time. Lets get that resistor replaced. In the mean time check your battery connections at both the battery and fuse panel in the engine compartment. Loose corroded or weak battery play some funny games with our cars.

And by the way welcome the forum stick around and feel free to use my website.

nice to have another member around here. i'd replace the resistor aswell first and that way you could see if that problem fixes the other problem. could be causing it to short out maybe.

Any chance that the problem is related to the wiring that runs to/from the ignition switch? I know that the ignition switch can play a role in the blower resistor not operating properly. I am not sure if the headlight wiring gets any power from the ignition switch harness.
