its pretty straightfoward. I belive since you have a 2000 that you have to unbolt the alt. bracket. After that just unbolt the valve cover itself. The bolts are around the edges.

Yep, after you get it off, just make sure to get the mating surfaces as clean as you can, then bolt her back down with the new gasket.

You might have to move some vac lines and/or wiring out of the way also. And possibly the heater core/return hoses may be in the way. It's pretty simple though.

What is that red stuff in your combustion chamber? That is NOT supposed to be there. I went ahead and removed the alt bracket and all wires around the valve covers. It was ALOT of work, but life was so much easier.

Nope its not the CAM, when I tore my engine down i was wondering the same thing, moves with the engine, looks like its for better oil flowing, slings it around on the lifters and everything...not exactly sure

Wow, when I tore my 3100 apart, the coolant didnt, like, spaz out and spill everywhere.

That spiral-shaped thing does LOOK like it would be the cam, though. Looks like lifters on it.

Oh, welcome back, Mike.
