Sad news. I agree with what I read on a different forum. Combine Buick and Pontiac in a more deluxe brand. Saab and Saturn could combined into a Euro-centric brand. Shed some of the redundant models and rename the divisions. Get rid of Hummer. I don't care if the cars are still named Pontiacs, I want all the cool models to survive.

Go ahead palsut, buy a Ford. Truth is, the way it looks right now, they're gonna be around a lot longer than GM or Chrysler whether you buy one or not.

Nothing unless we have the cash to buy out the inventory.

But I think this is exactly what GM needs to do. Along with killing Buick, Hummer and Saturn. Chevy loses all the truck sales to GMC. GMC has a better rep with contractors and comfort then the Chevy. Chevy gets all the cars and vans and small cross overs. Caddillac keeps the luxury.

Pretty similar to what Toyota and Honda do now. GM has way too much internal competition to survive.
Herc they cant kill buick....its the best selling "forghin" car in china.......

GM Europe and GM Asia are making money. GM Asia can keep Buick but stateside it's a royal disapointment.

It's sad that the Chinese love American cars more than most Americans. Honda and Toyota can't compete with GM in China. Of course, I don't think you'd recognize the Buicks being sold in China. It's just a brand name.

I say, to be fair, anger all GM fans equally by getting rid of all of the brands with the exception of Cadillac. Keep the best cars for each segment and brand them with GM (GM Corvette, GM Solstice, etc). Heresy I know, but most of the competition only has their regular brand and a high-end brand.

The really sad thing is that I've read more intelligent ideas about saving GM on forums like this than I have heard coming from the GM executives.

Because we get the crappy cars here.

Look at the Holdens in Australia.

Or even the Ford Focus in Europe

The dealer network is what's hurting the demise of car brands. GM lost millions in lawsuits paid to Oldsmobile dealers when Olds got the demise. Now multiply that by six.

I'm all for cutting off the hand before you have to cut off the arm.

Right now major scale backs are needed. People are going to lose jobs but would you rather lose 1 million jobs or 4 million? They both hurt only one hurts more. That's why I say GM should only have three brands. Chevy all cars vans and small cross overs. GMC all trucks and midsize and larger SUVs. Mainly because of the commercial sales GMC currently enjoys. And Cadillac.

Redo the line up with the best selling model of each segment from the "dead" divisions and rebadge as required.

Then concentrate on quality over quantity. Now all that money that was being spent on developing competing brands can be used to fuel the development of alternate fuel/electrical vehicles.

I find it funny how Toyota was a small fish in a big pond (in NA anyways) and they went with just that. Quality first and they grew to be the #1 in car sales in NA. In the past few years they have changed their philosophy to mirror that of GM. And now they are really feeling the pinch only thing saving them is the $41 an hour average labor cost and 1/3 of the dealers to support. If it worked for them it can work for GM.
