I think someone asked about this a long time ago, but I couldnt find it in the search.

Lately when I'm accelerating I hear a high pitched noise, almost like a turbo spooling. Anyone have an idea of what it might be? It only makes the noise under acceleration, usually around 3,000 rmps. When I'm cruising, all is good. I also think my LIM gasket is bad. I heard a hissing noise when I'm accelerating as well.

Oh the joys of owning an 8 year old car.

Sounds like an air leak, though that's somewhat obvious.

I'm guessing something along an intake leak too, due to it only being under acceleration.

Does it do it at idle? Can you tell? Is it all the time or after the car has warmed up?

Sounds a lot like my problem.

Only happens under acceleration, never at idle that I can tell. It does it when the engine is cold, warm, or somewhere in between. The noise isnt extraordinarily loud. I can hear the noise in the car, but it doesnt sound (to me) like it would be something you could hear 1/2 mile away. Just loud enough to annoy me. Guy at work told me it sounded like a spun bearing, but to be honest I dont know what that means.

Check vacuum lines and intake for leaks. Something might have just worked loose.

I believe its the tensioner pully. Mine did the same thing and I thought it was the alt. but i soon realized after it poped and took my pwr steering res that I needed a new tensioner pully, and a pwr sterring pump, because the whole unit is cheeper than the res itself.

sounds just like you described...

Tesioner pulley or alternator bearing are the most common sources for the desribed noise and FYI alternator bearings start to make noise usually before it craps out and the life span for the original seems to be around 100k and it's about the same for the tensioner pulleys.Chico(pops)
