Does anyone happen to know a good dealership in Milwaukee, WI that can do a CASE learn now that I have my reprogrammed PCM installed. I took it to Wilde Pontiac today and they all looked at me like I was speaking a different language when I asked them to do a case learn. As I understand this is a simple process taking about 45 seconds to accomplish. Can anyone help?

If they still look at you stupid give them the instructions lol (Tech II Snap/On Scanner)

97-2003 Engine CASE learn procedure:For DHP

1. Turn the key to on position
2. Turn Tech II on
3. Select the Diagnostics Menu
4. Select Car Information (Year, Make, Engine, Etc.) (Make sure they enter 1998 as the year.) (Also you will be asked what type of product line/type. It is a single letter code. Which corresponds to the first letter in your VIN)
5. Select Special Functions.
6. Select Variable Crankcase Learn Procedure.
7. Follow On Screen Directions.

The Crankcase Learn Procedure is going to ask the Technician to do the following:

1. Put E-brake On.
2. Make sure car is in neutral or park.
3. Turn engine on
4. Rev Car to Rev Limiter (car will hit limiter at 3,000 RPM)
5. Wait about 5 seconds.
6. Rev Car to Rev Limiter (The car will this time hits about 5,500 to 6,000 RPM)
7. Wait about 5 seconds.
8. Car is done

Actually that should be 98-03.
97's don't require a CASE learn.
There's a module that you swap over on the 97's, and that module contains the CASE learn info.

Look around/ask around for any GP clubs in your area. I know there's a WI GP club. Maybe someone may know.

Don't take it to a dealer. They will reset PCM. They have to by law.
Had a friend that got his done at a body shop. Sounds dumb but after I thought about it, they do a lot of front end work on cars. And they have to replace a lot of PCM's

I don't recall a law telling the dealer to reset every PCM that comes in.
Doing a case learn is a procedure that is recommended, and sometimes required by GM anytime the PCM is replaced, Camshaft, Crank, and/or a couple other things that slip my mind are repaired or replaced.
The main thing to watch for when taking it to someone not familiar with what you want is.....Make sure they don't flash your PCM back to stock settings....You are only doing a "CVS" IIRC...."Crank Variation Sensor" learn procedure....
It's not normally called a CASE Learn procedure, which is why most techs look at you funny when you ask about it. I can get proper names, and quotes once my desktop is done screwing with me if anyone has any questions, or arguments.

Later now,
Clint

Mech at my dealership did it without problems, took him all of 1 minute to do (including walking to the car).

He must have done others, cause when he had to rev the car to 4000 he said "Here's the part I can't stand"...

I don't agree with the "by law" part, but I do agree with Crimpton when he says calling it a CASE Learn confuses them.

Took my 98 in Michigan and both my 98's in Florida. Was told same thing by three dealers. They will reset everything back to stock settings. Last one took a month to find someone who could do it.
I may agree in Florida there is trouble. They can't read down here. BUT, in Michigan, never had any troubles but that.
