On my 97 GT, I have this strange noise comming from the back of the car when I go over bumps. (Sounds like something is bouncing around in the truck). Trunk is empty for testing purposes.

From reading other posts in these forums I supect the strut mounts are broke. Is there an easy way to verifiy this?

Thanks,
HAL

Sounds like you're due for new ones; see the Tech notes here: strut mounts You can buy struts, springs, and mounts separately, or buy complete assemblies, like these: Left Strut Right Strut hammer

Here's what a busted front mount looks like.
If the rears are busted, I'm sure they'll look the same...

Gezzzzzzz that looks like it hurt...... I crawled in the truck and took a look. The pass side is sticking up an inch or so. Nothing like yours.

It was indeed the rear strut. I swapped it out this afternoon and noise went away.

was it the rear strut or mount, ive had a noise like that for a while, although i think its the rear adjustible link, i can get underneath the car and grab it and it makes noise, but only does it with the weight of the car on it i bought a new one but as i went to install it i found out you have to drop that x-member to get the bolts out, and doing that on a apt garage floor with only the jack that came with the car, im not going to attempt it

I believe it was the mount. I changed the whole strut assembly just to be sure. The quick strut cost $156 including shipping.

I had a friend drive down the street while I was in the trunk. The noise definetly was coming from the top of the strut/mount. I might add it was an isolated country street.

Hahaha thats hilarious. If my buddy was in the trunk of my car I prob would "accidently" floor it a couple times.

Haha! At our mod day, we had this guy named Tommy (like 5'2") hop in the trunk to unscrew the nuts to the strut tower so we could replace the springs on one car.
