I'm going to install the alluminum head gaskets this weekend because I have a little coolant just in front of the rear valve cover pooled in the little pocket below the upper intake. I just want to know if anyone knows exactly how the two short side gaskets go into place, or has a pic of how they should go. The two big ones are easy.
I can't really tell if it's the upper or lower intake that's leaking, I'm just going to do both. Temp stays just below the 1/4 mark, even when running the car, I can't see anthing leaking and the coolant level is still ok.

Well, first off you're talking about Lower Intake Manifold(LIM) gaskets and not head gaskets. The two short pieces fit on the front and back of the block and just sit there. If I remember correctly there are a couple of holes to properly locate the pieces on the block. Also, be sure to put some gasket sealer at the points where the gasket pieces meet up with each other or you'll have to do it all over again.

Good call on doing both of them. You're going to have a mess with the coolant, by the way.

Drain the coolant, drain the coolant, or it will get all in your block! So will still be in there when taking LIM off, so be careful taking those things off and get rags handy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when you say front and back of the block, are they really left and right when standing in front of the vehicle. I understand that our engines are sitting sideways, I just want to get this right the first time. Keith

Coolant will get in the block short of using a vac on the intake manifold or pulling the knock sensors.
Just plan on it and get 5qts of cheap oil and a cheap filter. After everything is done, drain the oil, put the cheap stuff on and run it for a bit. Then drain and put in some good oil and a filter back on it.
