today when i got into my car i had my ac off ... and it had this nasy grinding noise... so i turned on my ac and then the noise went away... it sounded like it was coming from the ac compressor clutch . then when i would shut of the ac the noise would come back .... has anyone had this problem or anything ... and what would be the best way to fix it without having to buy a remanufactrued compressor which is $250 at our local parts store... is there a way that you can just replace the clutch setup??

i found a site with some stuff

here is a link http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1357141,pgname,Heat%2B%2526%252338%253B%2BAir%2BConditioning

if i knew exactly what part it was i would just get the part .. because if i have someone replace the compressor they are going to have to empty my ac system and then charge me to re charge it again

Sounds like a bad A/C clutch. Usually easier to swap the whole compressor.

Try spraying lube around the pulley. Friend had a whistling/chirping pulley and had to spray it every day for a week and it went away for good.

i had the condensor.... i talked to ed and he said he would sell me one for 80 shipped with a 90 day warranty so that would be the way i go ... and zuul its not like a grinding noise ... its like a rubbing noise like a bolt or something is loose and its rubbing ... so i will have to replace it

By the way the reason it's easier to swap out a new compressor rather then change the clutch pulley is because you have to remove the compressor anyways and pay the labor to remove, replace recharge etc where as the compressor comes out compressor goes in recharge done.
