im starting a new post to post different info on ignition coils for our cars
i have come up with a few ideas please feel free to step up and add on or dispute an idea
*** one of the main things of a coil is to provide amps. not just volts.
you figure out amps by taking the voltage and dividing by the resistance ( ohms)

Jegs coils- they are jegs house brand of replacement coil, they are rated at 43000-45000 volts but that is all the info they show on the coil, i called Jegs and the Tech guy couldn't find anymore info in the coil. so this one gets teh worst rating just because we have no info on it

MSD coils- pretty much the junk of all coils, they use a capacitor in them that is prone to falure , it may or may not charge all the way before it is needed. and they are know to bleed off a lot in our application
they are rated at 40,000 volts and have a resistance of 7800 ohms that means the amp of the coil is 5.12 amps

Accel and stock coils- ** from the research i did i found that they made the coils for AC/Delco**( this came from my GF's dad who is an engineer for ford)
they are rated at 45,000 volts and 8000 ohms this means they have a rating of 5.63 amps and they do not use a capacitor(or at least the same kind as MSD) in them thus making them alot more reliable

Summit coils- they have a rating of 40,000 volts and a resistance of 5850 ohms this making the the amps higher at 6.83 amps, this uses the same technology as the Accel/stock coils so no capacitor

as i do more research on Coil packs over the next week or so ill post up

also you must look at the turn ratio of the coils
the accel coil has a 75:1 turn ratio
the MSD has an 80:1
and the summit brand has 151:1 turn ratio
meaning the higher the ratio the less work the coil has to do to get to its rated voltage

and also the lower the resistance in a coil the less heat that will be produced by the coil
cooler electronics work better.

the higher the amps the faster the spark will flow through the wires( if you run "good" wires)

im going to bed soon so ill do the other aftermarket coils later but i thought this was a good start

So basically, summits are the best? (at least that you've gone through so far)

I will say from personal experience that i needed a new coil pack for my car (stock one died). After seeing how cheap the summit ones were, and the ratings for them, i bought three, figuring it wouldnt hurt to do them all. Theyve worked great in my otherwise stock 99 GT.

Damn it. I just replace my coils last weekend with ACDelco. Oh well, using second best is better than using MSD, which I almost bought but decided against them.

I wonder if the Camaro coil packs are the same as the GT or GTP packs.

if you find the specs on them you should be able to compare them to the Accels

In the AC Delco catalog, the L36 GP GT & Camaro use D555 coils and the GTP uses D576 coils. But they also list an E530C coil for both engines.
