http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzYle6U8cCM This guy has a real nice exhaust on his grand prix. I really like it when you rev the engine and let off and you get that backfire noise. Is that a good thing? Any he says he has a magnaflow cat with flowmaster 40 mufflers, will just that setup give me that noise or do you guys think he has something else to make it like that? Any suggestions on how to make it like that would be great

I hate to say it but any back-rapping exhaust noise can't be good... but I guess if cracking and popping exhaust is your thing, go for it...

Has a nice idle and a nice ease on the throttle. But when you get on it, its not going to sound good. IMO, I like my 3" h/f 304 d/p with straight pipe to the Y and the Stainless Steel SLP tips. At idle it rumbles almost as good as that video. At ease of throttle has a nice rumble tone. And at WOT, I have not rasp, no deep tone, just a sweet sound from the S/C and intake. But that's just me!

I agree with the exhaust not sounding good! I am into hearing a bark (V8) not a whistle and a pop too much like a import for this guy. The sound of the charger winding out..and the intake suckin in all the fresh air I can give it..OH YAH

Well the only way to get the V8 bark is with a V8... you might get close with a hefty CAM, but for the most part, you wont archive that V8 sound... but still, love that low rumble @ idle

My exhaust with headers, cam, and full catback is about as close as you can get to sounding like a V8, but it's still not really like it. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v249/K...=Drummerboy.flv

I say that bcuz there is this viper that lives close to me and he has that same popping and backfiring exhaust and it sounds amazing, i know i wont reach that same potential with just a V6 but i want to be close.

That sounds about right for what he said he had. Sounds kinda close to my car but I have a Super 40 muffler.
But I never get that pop when revving it at idle.
I'm I'm rolling and drop it into neutral and rev to 6k, then it popcorn after I let off the gas.
But it pops so fast it doesn't sound ricey.
I think that exhaust would sound better in-person.

thats alot of money ... why dont you just do a 3" downpipe cat or no cat ... and then 3"res.. if you dont mind drown ... and then a set of flowmaster or magnaflow... whatever floats your boat

we have this discussion often.
I, myself, have yet to hear a GP that i really like.
I think chico said he had a setup that was real nice. I believe it was magnaflow?

Even the ZZPs 9s GP doesn't sound GREAT as far as exhaust goes. Granted, you can't really hear it between the turbos but still.
I just don't think our 3800s are ever going to sound really good. Sure we can have good idles *cough* drummmerboy *cough* but I haven't heard a GP exhaust that sounded good in the top end.

I'm going back to stock muffs soon. Mine sounds awesome at idle but that's it. Anything 2000 rpms or higher sounds awful.
