There was a bulletin regarding "chips and sediment" internally on these transmissions. This would cause certain parts to stick at times, but I believe the symptoms were harsh 1-2 shifts, but I could be wrong. The only other thing that would make something like that stick is possibly poor or old and gummy trans fluid. Just an idea...
