- Problem Abstract: Climate Control Probs
- Reported By: Ted Jenkins (tfjk@iswt.com)
- Year: 1998
- Model: GT
- Mileage: 5700
- Applicable Options: Auto Climate Control
- Solution: None to my satisfaction.
- Cost: warranty
- Other: Exterior temp guage does not always read OAT. First startup of day, temp readout 10-20 degrees variance from OAT. After driving few miles, temp indicator goes approx to OAT. From this point on, everytime I start car that same temp setting remains, even if the OAT has increased 30 degrees. For example, if OAT in early morning is 50 deg and it warms to 85 deg, the guage still reads 50 and I get hot air thru the vents even though it is set for 73 deg. No matter how many times I start and shutdown, the initial exterior temp remains, thus affecting fan output. Pontiac says this is normal, that the ext temp reading will not change unless the car has been shut off for three hours and then I have to drive 3 miles and over 20 MPH before a change takes place. I have had too many other GM cars with climate control and this is not the way it works. Dealer very helpful but at a loss to fix. Smart Pontiace cust service girl told me that's the way it was and if I wasn't satisfied, I could take it to another dealer.
