Speedbuilt™ Fenderwell Intake Kit Installation Instructions

Tools Needed
  • Ratchet with 13mm socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • 7mm Socket
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
Installation time is about 30 minutes
Removing the factory airbox
  • Using the 13mm ratchet and socket, remove the 3 bolts holding the diagonal brace over the air box and move the diagonal brace out of the way.
  • Disconnect the Intake Air Temp Sensor, remove the Intake Tube from the airbox and throttle body, then remove the sensor from the Intake Tube.
  • Disassemble the factory airbox and remove it. The PCM is in the airbox. Remove it from the airbox but don't disconnect it and set it where the airbox was.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before installation, make sure the insides of the pipes and silicone sleeves are clean. Check the edges of the pipes for burrs and sharp edges. Although these pieces are carefully deburred and cleaned, it is always a good idea to check carefully before assembly. Carefully file away any burrs you may find and thoroughly clean the insides of the pipes and silicone sleeves.
Installing the Upper Intake Tube
  • Install the Intake Air Temp sensor in the upper intake tube where the black grommet is. Although it is a tight fit, it will go in. Use a little bit of lubricant to help get it started if needed. Carefully wipe excess lubricant from the inside of the pipe if necessary.
  • Install one of the black silicone sleeves over the throttle body as shown in Figure 2. The kit came with 4 clamps, 1 larger than the other three. Use this larger clamp on the side of the sleeve that clamps to the throttle body.
  • Install the upper intake pipe into the black silicone sleeve. Make sure to butt it up against the throttle body evenly all around.
  • Tighten clamp just snugly.
Using as an Open Cone System
  • If using the Speedbuilt™ Fenderwell Intake Kit as an Open Cone System, install K&N Filter as shown and snug down all clamps. Connect Intake Air Temp Sensor and reinstall Diagonal Brace.
  • To continue installation of the Speedbuilt™ Fenderwell Intake Kit, skip this step.
Installing the Fenderwell Pipe
  • While it is possible to access the fenderwell area by cranking the steering wheel to the extreme left, it is much easier if you jack the left front off the ground and remove the left front wheel. Make sure to use all safety precautions including jack stands.
  • Remove the inner fenderwell plastic panel by removing the three phillips screws along the inside fenderwell, the two screws at the bottom of the fender and the 7mm bolt tucked away behind the inner fender plastic. Once removed, pull inner plastic panel away and secure behind the brake rotor to keep it out of your way.
  • Using a 10mm socket, remove this bolt.
  • Bend this bracket towards fender out of the way.
  • Feed the Fenderwell Pipe through the fenwerwell from the engine bay.
  • Bring it between the bracket you moved out of the way and the chassis.
  • Attach the second black silicone sleeve to the Upper Intake Tube, then slip the fenderwell pipe into the sleeve.
  • Snug the clamps down slightly.
  • Check to make sure the inside of your K&N Filter is clean and that nothing fell into it.
  • Install the K&N Filter to the fenderwell pipe and snug down the clamp. The filter should be at a slight angle with the bottom pointed towards the front of the car as shown in the picture.
Reassembly and Finishing Up
  • With everything put together but the clamps just snug, make sure all of the pipes are installed at straight angles and the fenderwell pipe is not touching the opening through the fenderwell. Once you are satisfied that everything is lined up correctly, start tightening up the 4 clamps on the pipes and the clamp on the K&N Filter.
  • Reinstall the inner fenderwell plastic panel.
  • Mount the wheel back on the car and lower the car.
  • Plug the Intake Air Temperature Sensor back in.
  • Reinstall the diagonal brace.
  • If you incur any rubbing of the pipes on the fenderwell opening, use a little bit of rubber tubing, sliced down the length and installed over the area of the fenderwell that is rubbing.
  • Secure the PCM to the "shelf" near the headlight using tie-straps, or any other method you wish to use.
