I have a home made FWI, I used 1/2 inch polycarbonate sheet and weather proof that you would find in the local aotopart store, the PCM was relocated to the front right behind the headlight, and it took me a weekend to finish it, (it would have been a lot easier if I would have used a circular saw instead of my dremel to cut the polycarbonate.)
anyway if you want a pic or have a question, let me know.

Couldn't you just cut out the front of the stock air filter housing and put in a K&N? It would almost look like a CAI. Don't know if it would work or what kind of performance but it's gotta be at least more than a little improvement.

It would work. if i can find it i will post the link for how to do that. With that it helps more that just a drop in K&N filter but you still get the hot air from the engine compartment. I talked with kevin at the grand prix store and he said the fender well system gets more gains than the CAI box. a custom FWI is so easy and cheap to do. filter=$50, ABS street elbows $5, tubing around $15. You can use your stock rubber peice that goes on the TB if you go with 3" tubing or get a 4" rubber coupler which is less than $5. I would recommend ABS street plastic over PVC. It conducts less heat. I did mine in about 20 minutes.

Those are pics of the setup im going to do. The tubing is available in different colors. I will probly just do all black. I dont have a pic of my current set up but I will post one that is similiar. Mine is similiar except it is just one abs street plastic pipe going to a 45 and 90 degree angle elbows to the filter. You can get it all at lowes. At my local home depot they only have pvc pipe. PVC conducts too much heat. I also used my stock rubber piece that goes to the TB.

Here is a pic of mine. It's not quite complete yet I still need to get the updated overflow bottle so I can make my box for mine. I used a 3 inch street coupler and a 3 inch 45* elbow.

I like your engine cover. Did you have it painted or did you buy it like that?

Yeah have to agree looks really good. I painted my old one on my 98 and it turned out pretty good, it was yello, the only think i didn't like is it looked dirty all the time but when clean was cool

So long as its spring hammer it down

I just did some more hammering down on the TB. Finnished porting it. mine looks like the stage 1 TB from zzp now but cost nothing. Tomorrow is the 4" intake. Then ported manis next weekend and wednesday when I get my taxes its an intense stage1 PCM. Then when I get more money its a 3.25 pulley and next week a friend is helping with porting my super charger. I have some serious hammer down to do if Im going to beat WS6's and vettes before it gets cold out again. Oh forgot about the gen 3 full roller rocker arms from intense!
